Ever since before time, God knew that we would turn our backs on him, yet he still chose to love us to the point that he would send his son to die for us. Jesus’ death on the cross was “foreknown before the foundation of the world” (1 Peter 1:20), and God had a plan for us all along. Peter describes God’s plan for us as a ransom from our futile ways (v. 18), we are prisoners to sin, and Jesus’ sacrifice Is the payment. The Sacrifices God has done for me cause me to want to sacrifice things in my life. I am led to go out of my way to pick up a friend in need or exclude myself from things I know are wrong. Not only do I do this because of God’s crazy love for me, but also because I know that in the end, I will be with my creator, “He will wipe away every tear from [our] eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore” (Revelation 21:1-7). God calls us to live life for eternity and not just for the moment.
How can you sacrifice yourself for God in your everyday life? Are you ready to be a light in the dark for the kingdom of God?
